As a photographer, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing countless love stories unfold through the lens of my camera. But there are some weddings that stand out, not just because of the stunning landscapes or perfect lighting, but because of the genuine connection and love shared between the couple. Shawnna and Travis’s elopement at Providence Canyon State Park in Lumpkin, Georgia, was one such unforgettable experience.
From the moment Shawnna and Travis inquired, I knew their elopement was going to be special. Their love story touched my heart and hearing how they both have overcome some of the hardest circumstances truly spoke to me.
They are both in the Army and met while they were both stationed in Alaska, and connected over their deep love of the outdoors and outdoor sports. Travis even proposed at their favorite ski resort. How cute!
We hiked down to their favorite canyon and set up for their ceremony. It was all hands on deck, and truly a team effort to ensure they had the ceremony they wanted.

The forecast had called for rain, but miraculously, the skies held off, allowing the natural beauty of the canyon to serve as the backdrop for their vows. Once we were set up, the ceremony began.
As I watched Shawnna and Travis exchange heartfelt promises, it was evident that every word spoken told the story of their love with unparalleled sincerity.
Surrounded by their closest family and friends, they were united in marriage amidst the breathtaking beauty of the canyon. The intimacy of the ceremony created an atmosphere filled with love and warmth, making every moment truly unforgettable. From their heartfelt vows to having family and friends read verses, they included their family and friends in every moment of their day and it was so sweet to witness.

After the ceremony, they celebrated with champagne and cake.
Funny story, they packed their cake in a cooler and it barely made the trip down, but they embraced the moment and it is now a funny story to be told. After the celebration, we embarked on a journey through the canyon to capture some breathtaking bridal portraits. The rugged terrain and vibrant colors provided the perfect setting for capturing the essence of Shawnna and Travis’s love against nature’s canvas.

Before we left the canyon, we stopped at an overlook to take shots as a group, a tradition from Shawnna’s family. Everyone had so much fun and a few stories were told that had everyone in tears.
Afterwards, we made our way back to their house on Fort Moore for a relaxed brunch. The couple opted for a brunch celebration instead of a reception, where laughter filled the air as they played cornhole and enjoyed each other’s company. It was a celebration of love in its purest form, surrounded by the people who meant the most to them.

As I reflect on Shawnna and Travis’s elopement, I’m reminded of the power of love to transcend any obstacle, even medical uncertainty. Their day was a testament to the beauty of simplicity and the joy that comes from marrying your best friend.
In every photograph captured, there’s a story waiting to be told, and Shawnna and Travis’s elopement at Providence Canyon State Park is a story of love, resilience, and the beauty of embracing the unexpected. It was an honor to be a part of their special day and to witness the beginning of their journey together as husband and wife.
