A romantic couple session during Washington, DC’s cherry blossom season is a dreamy experience that combines your love for each other and one of the most spectacular seasons in the nations capitol.
Every Spring thousands of travelers flock to the DMV to take in the beautiful cherry blossoms and the exciting festivities surrounding the blooms. A few popular events in the district are Army 10 miler marathon, The National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade, The Blossom Kite Festival, and Petalpalooza to name a few.
The Tidal Basin, surrounded by the Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and the Washington Monument, becomes the epicenter of this natural spectacle. The sight of the cherry blossoms in full bloom against the city’s iconic landmarks provides a picturesque and romantic setting for a couple’s photoshoot.
To make the most of the cherry blossom season, timing is crucial. Scheduling your photoshoot during the peak bloom period ensures that you and your loved one are surrounded by the maximum number of blossoms. Peak bloom is typically the last week of March or first week of April, but I recommend seeking guidance from the National Park Service.

I have photographed over 100 couples and families during the Cherry Blossom season, and each year is better than the last. With the popularity of the cherry blossoms growing, I have learned a few things along the way to make sessions go as smoothly as possible.
Many clients ask me what they should wear to their cherry blossom session, and I have a few suggestions. When planning your outfits, consider the color palette of the cherry blossoms. Soft pinks, whites, pastels, and light neutrals complement the natural surroundings and create a cohesive look. Flowy dresses, linen suits, and floral accessories can add a touch of romance and elegance to your photos. Don’t forget to bring comfortable shoes for exploring the Tidal Basin and capturing candid moments
Another helpful tip is to book your session early in the morning and if possible on a weekday to avoid crowds as much as possible. Early morning sessions provide a soft golden glow and ease of moving around the Tidal Basin and Jefferson Memorial area, the most popular locations for the cherry blossoms. Waking up early is worth having a gallery full of images without the crowds.
One last suggestion I have is to pre-book your parking. There are several parking garages nearby(about .5 mile away from the Tidal Basin) I recommend utilizing because street parking is very hard to find after 8am.
The beauty of a cherry blossom photoshoot lies not only in the stunning scenery but also in the intimate moments shared between each other. I want to document the small intimate moments like walking hand in hand, kisses on the forehead or dancing around the Tidal Basin.
I encourage each client to create photo album, frame your favorite shots, or even sharing the images on social media to celebrate your love story and the beauty of the cherry blossom season.
I would love opportunity to capture your love in full bloom amidst the iconic cherry blossoms of our nation’s capital. I offer 30 minute and 60 minute sessions to ensure clients can schedule a session to meet their needs. My most popular sessions are 60 minute sessions.
Why should I choose a 60 minute session?
One hour sessions allow us to walk around to a few locations within the Tidal Basin vicinity to capture the most popular spots and a few less popular locations as well. No matter what time frame you choose, you will have a beautiful gallery full of images you will cherish for years.
