How to plan for your couples session

Weddings

Whether you are in Atlanta, Columbus, Orlando, Panama City Beach or Nashville, I am the photographer for couples who want to have fun and create memories together. I have compiled a list of four recommendations to prepare for your couples session and have fun.

I know planning a session with your partner can be daunting, especially if they aren’t a fan of pictures or the camera.

Many clients say, “We are so awkward in front of the camera”, or “We don’t know what to do”. 90% of my clients say this and I resonate with you because even as a photographer, I am awkward in front of the camera. Ironic, right?

No matter your comfort level in front of the camera is, do not worry, I got you!

If you aren’t comfortable in front of the camera, I will guide and provide prompts for candid and posed pictures, whatever your vision is for your session. Like I said, I got you.

If you are comfortable in front of the camera, I will be a fly on the wall and provide prompts here and there, and allow the two of you to do your thing while I do mine. Sounds great, right?

Here are a few suggestions I recommend to every client so the nerves and/or stress is minimal before our session and we will have the best session you have ever had.

  1. Once your session is officially on my books(deposit and contract signed), I will send you a questionnaire to complete so I can get to know you better, know your comfort level, and know how I can serve you best during and after your session. This is important as one of my goals as your photographer is for you to be comfortable and we walk away from your session as friends. Relationships are super important to me.
  2. Pick your outfits. I recommend starting with a color palette you are most comfortable in. If your favorite color on yourself is green, for example, use that as your “anchor” and build around it. You only want one print such as stripes or plaid and complimentary neutrals or solids. One partner can wear a green shirt, sweater, dress, suit, and the other partner can wear solid, yet patterned, neutrals. So, partner one will wear a green sweater with jeans or black pants, and the other partner will wear jeans or khakis, with a plaid sweater or shirt. Pinterest is a great resource(that is free!) to gain inspiration on outfits. You can follow me on pinterest here where I post couples, engagement sessions and weddings. https://pin.it/7l3G0Vr
  3. Choose an activity the both of you enjoy. Do you both love coffee, ice cream, bowling, browsing around town, picnics, etc? Pick one activity and plan your session around it. If you love coffee, before your session we can meet at a coffee shop, pick up your favorite order, and walk to the park or location we have discussed for your session, and we will start your session there.
  4. Lastly, let go and HAVE FUN! No matter where your session is being held or what activity you have chosen, we will have FUN! Having fun is a cornerstone of my business and who I am as a person. I will never not have a smile on my face, make a corny joke or prompt you and your partner with something fun(like bear hugs), or depending on your comfort level, a booty grab.

Were these recommendations helpful for you? If so, please let me know in the comments.
